Fun Facts About Puppies: The Truth Behind the Cuteness

Fun Facts About Puppies: The Truth Behind the Cuteness

Introduction

I'm sure you've heard of puppies, but do you know how they're born? How their tiny bodies develop? What their eating habits are like? And when they finally grow up into dogs, how do they look different from a puppy? In this article, we'll explore the facts about puppies and what makes them so cute and cuddly (and more work than you could ever imagine).

Puppies are born blind, deaf and toothless.

  • Most people have a misconception that puppies are born with teeth and they can chew, but this is not true. In fact, when puppies are born, their eyes and ears are closed so they don’t see nor hear anything. With time, their eyelids will open and their hearing will develop with the help of maturation.

  • Puppies also have a soft spot on their heads called “cranial fontanelle” which closes after about two months of age. This happens as the puppy's skull bones fuse together during development and growth!

  • Puppies also grow a tail soon after birth (it could take up to two weeks). This is why it's important for owners to be careful when handling them because sometimes tails get injured accidentally by humans unknowingly!

  • A newborn puppy has its own sense of smell; however it won't be able to detect odors until about one month after birth when its nose opens up fully for good use!

Puppies are born with more bones than adult dogs.

Did you know that puppies are born with more bones than adult dogs? It's true! Puppies have about 270 bones, whereas adults only have 206. For comparison, human babies are born with about 300 bones (we lose some as we grow), cats have about 180, horses have about 220 and cows have about 300.

Puppies sleep more than adult dogs.

Puppies sleep for about 16-18 hours a day, which is a lot more than adult dogs. The reason for this is simple—puppies are growing and learning, so they need plenty of rest! In fact, one of the main reasons that puppies are so cute is because of their habit of sleeping as much as possible. They may even snooze away in the middle of playtime with their owners!

Puppies can't control their bladder as adults.

You may have heard that puppies don't have bladder control as adults. While this is true, it also doesn't mean that they are incontinent like some other pets. The truth behind the matter is much simpler: puppies learn to control their bladders from their mother and littermates at a very early age, so if they are not taught, they will be incontinent.

It's important to train your puppy to use the bathroom outside because indoor accidents can be difficult or impossible to clean up completely—they will not vacuum up on their own! In addition, you don't want your puppy drinking out of the toilet bowl (or worse yet, pooping in it). Even if you don't mind having a little bit of pee smell around sometimes (and who does?), there’s no reason for him/her not to get used to going outside from day one!

Puppy eating habits are similar to human babies.

It's true, puppies have eating habits that are similar to human babies. When they are very young, they don't have a full set of teeth and their digestive system isn't mature yet. This means that the puppy will be born with a sucking reflex and must rely on her mother's milk until she is able to eat solid food. She also has an underdeveloped tongue and may not be able to feed herself at this time. The puppy's small stomach can only hold about 1/4 cup of food at any given time, so it works best for her to nurse from her mother as much as possible until she reaches about 8 weeks old (at which point she'll be ready for solid foods).

Given all of these things listed above—along with other unique puppy behaviors—it makes sense why we love puppies so much! But keep in mind that there could be some downsides to having such tiny babies in our homes; if you plan on getting one yourself soon then make sure you do some research beforehand so you know what kind of care it will need throughout its life cycle (especially if your puppy is part German Shepherd—which happens quite often!).

It was a lot of work to raise them, but they were worth it!

You can’t take puppies for granted. They are cute, but they require a lot of work and attention. You need to feed them, train them and clean up after them. They can’t do it themselves! Puppies are not like human babies; they don’t understand the concept of cleaning up their own messes or even closing doors behind themselves if you leave your house for the day (we learned about this the hard way).

Conclusion

So, there you have it. These are some of the most interesting facts about puppies that we could find and are sure to surprise you! Don't forget to share with your friends if this was something that really surprised them as well!
