Mites Mites are arthropods and are not insects. They live on the skin of dogs, and cause itching, hair loss, and infection to your pet. Mites can be found on a variety of animals such as cats, dogs, chickens and even humans. There are two types of mites which affect dogs: external (skin) mites; or internal (digestive tract) mites that feed off the dog’s blood supply from its intestine.
